Holy Week Update #1

April 07, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

We have just crossed the threshold of Holy Week with the celebration of Palm Sunday. Even though you were not able to traditionally bring home the blessed Palms to place them on your crucifix as a reminder, remember to place a virtual palm on your heart as a reminder that God has stamped the seal, “Made-by-God” on our hearts, that is, wonderfully made in God’s Image and Likeness. This is exactly what Holy Week is all about, trusting in a God who loves us so much so, that he sacrificed his only Son for our salvation as scripture states, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life” (Jn 3:16)

For us Catholics, Holy Week and the Easter Season begin the most sacred time of the year and so I invite you to join us in preparing of our mind, heart, body and soul as we intensify our prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Below are a few ways to help us prepare:

SOCIAL DISTANCE CONFESSIONS
We are happy to announce that we will begin Social Distance Confessions (aka Drive-up) at St. William this week! Be assured that our confessionals strictly adhere to the CDC’s strict instructions on social distancing for both the health of the penitent as well as the confessor.

Just enter the El Monte side parking lot and follow the signs. Our beloved Seminarians will be there to direct you!

Confession Times:**
Tuesday, April 7 ~ 2:00-3:00 pm
Wednesday, April 8 ~ 2:00-3:00 pm
Thursday, April 9 ~ 10:00-11:00 am

**We will extend these times if there is a long line!

If you do not feel comfortable using social distance confession please do not despair! Bishop Cantu’ explains (here) how you may confess your sins with confidence in God’s merciful forgiveness until confession is again available in its customary form.

Also, remember, if you or a loved one are in need of Sacramental care, such as anointing of the sick, last rites, confession, or Holy Communion, Fr. Anthony and I will be available to assist you. Please be sure to call the Parish office to set up an appointment. (650) 948-2158

TRIDUUM MASSES ARE LIVE STREAMED!
The Sacred Triduum will be live streamed at their proper times:

  • Holy Thursday at 7:00 PM
  • Good Friday at 12:00 PM
  • Easter Vigil at 8:00 PM

Links will be sent in my next email update on or before Thursday morning!

Also, we continue to offer pre-recorded private Daily Mass at St. Nicholas Church posted on our website. Share this link with parishioners, family and friends!

WHAT ABOUT DONATIONS? – MANY WAYS!
Our parish’s mission relies upon the generosity of our parishioners. Here are a few ways you can support the parish:

  • Our office (while closed to the public) is still working. Please feel free to mail your envelopes or check to: 473 Lincoln Ave. Los Altos, CA 94022.
  • If you are not a regular online giver, please prayerfully consider becoming one. We offer both one-time and scheduled giving. Donate Now through our new on-line giving portal.

Lenten Blessings,

Fr. John Poncini
