Pastor’s Update: Happy Father’s Day!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This weekend is dedicated to Father’s Day – a day to pray for our Dads, to thank our Dads and a day for Dads to reflect on the important loving role of Fatherhood.

Imagine a world without dads … Ok, the exercise is over, because you wouldn’t be here to imagine anything if it weren’t for those who are 50% biologically responsible for your existence.

I myself, am forever grateful that I had an amazing father to model love, devotion, dependability, integrity, compassion and unwavering faith. His and my mother’s love formed me into the person and spiritual father that I am today.

The Masses celebrated this weekend are offered for all Father’s, living and diseased. I share with you (below) a Father’s Day blessing as we ask for intercession of St. Joseph, the Patron of Fathers and Families.

Peace in Christ,
Fr. John Poncini

Father’s Day Prayer & Blessing

O God,
We thank you for these men.
Men who have taken on the impossible task of following in Your footsteps.
We thank you for their courage and their strength.

And our prayer is that, as they learn what it means to be a father, that You would Father them, and apprentice them.

We pray that you would teach them how to be good fathers
no matter how old or young their children may be.

Give them hearts like your heart.
That they may become known for:
Compassion, tenderness, and mercy.
May they live lives full of love and grace.
May they not be afraid to discipline.
And may they lead their families with great wisdom and gentleness.

Bless all fathers, that they may be able to commit themselves selflessly
as mentor, protector and provider;
shaping the direction of their child’s character by giving love, care and guidance.

Bless all fathers, that they may lead their children to know and do what is good, living not for themselves alone, but for God and for others.

Amen.
