Mother’s Day Prayers and Remembrance

Spiritual Bouquet

Remember your beloved mother, grandmother, or any special woman, living or deceased, with a Mother’s Day “Spiritual Bouquet.” The Mass Intentions for Sunday, May 10, 2020 will be for mothers and significant women who have touched our lives.

Thank you to those who submitted requests for Spiritual Bouquet Mass Intentions  for the Mass on 5/10/2020.

Mother’s Day Prayers

The prayers below are for all mothers, living and deceased, and are especially appropriate to pray, as a family, in a novena on the nine days leading up to Mother’s Day.

In many ways, the battle between the culture of life and the culture of death is a battle over mothers, and how we understand their role in God’s plan. As we pray let us renew our resolve to strengthen, bless, and thank all mothers as they embrace the awesome vocation of accepting and nurturing new life.

A Prayer for Mothers

God of tender love and life,
You compared your love for humanity
To the love a mother has for her own child.

You are the Lord and Giver of Life,
And you knit each of us together
In our mother’s womb.

You provide for the world
The example of Mary, your own mother,
Who said yes to life amid her confusion and surprise.

We thank you, then, for our mothers.
Though human, they are also a reflection of you, Lord God.
They are your gift to us.

We pray for all mothers today.
May they realize the greatness of their vocation
And have the strength to live it without fear.
Forgive their sins, and keep their eyes raised up to you.

To those who still make this earthly journey with us,
Give us the grace to love them as we should;
And to those whom you have called from this life,
Give a special place of honor in your Kingdom of endless life.

We pray through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Mother’s Day Novena Prayer

Most Gracious Heavenly Father,
We thank you for our mothers
to whom you have entrusted the care of every precious human life.

Grant that every woman may come to understand
the full meaning of that blessing.

Watch over every mother who is with child.
Give her courage in times of fear,
understanding in times of doubt,
and hope in times of trouble.
Grant her joy in the birth of her child.

We beseech you to send Your Holy Spirit, the Comforter,
to all mothers who sorrow for children that have died.
Help grieving mothers to rely on your tender mercy
and fatherly love for all your children.

We ask your blessing on all those
to whom you have entrusted motherhood.
May they ever follow the example of Mary,
mother of Our Lord Jesus,
and imitate her fidelity, her humility,
and her self-giving love.

We ask this through your beloved son,
Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

A Blessing for Mothers

“Loving God, as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children, so you watch over your Church. Bless these women, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.”
