To our Parish community,
We write to share information regarding a recent incident in our parish that contradicted the Diocese’s Standard of Conduct policy. We realize that information like this can be and is surprising.
At this time, we intend to be open, transparent, and in communion with the Church’s commitment to this endeavor. We would also like to reassure our parish community that all incidents are addressed by civil and Church protocols, adhering strictly to a zero-tolerance policy.
When a complaint is received, we conduct a thorough investigation and implement appropriate corrective action as necessary. Anyone who suspects a boundary violation or other inappropriate behavior should promptly report their concern to civil authorities and then to the Diocesan Office for the Protection of Children & Vulnerable Adults (OPCVA) at 408-983-0113.
Parish and school personnel, including clergy, are “Mandated Reporters” and are required by state law to report abuse, even a reasonable suspicion of abuse, to civil authorities—law enforcement or Child Protective Services. The Diocese of San Jose reports all allegations to the civil authorities under mandated reporter laws.
